Original Watercolour 11X14" Spring on the prairies is signaled when the crocuses bloom (often shrugging their blooms through an icy crust of snow!) and the return of the meadowlark s. Both are happening right outside my door. This painting was a challenge…getting that fuzzy greyed down mauve and they’re always found in a tangle of grass and brush…if not snow! I'm always amazed to find them on the NORTH side of a coulee, where they bloom away from the warmth of the sun. These little fuzzy guys are resilient and irrepressible, like most of the wild flora and fauna who choose the great plains as their native home....the people too! Show more
