From the artist: The artwork explores the complex relationship between African heritage and Western influence. The white cloth serves as a metaphor for Western culture, which the warrior is shown pulling away to unveil the "true identity of an African." The white mask discarded on the ground signifies a rejection of external cultural impositions. The piece acts as a call for spiritual and mental liberation. It suggests that while physical slavery may be over, Africa remains "mentally enslaved" by the adoption of "strange culture." I use this scene to urge Africans to return to their ancestral roots and rich cultural beliefs to overcome modern identity crises.
