I made this piece using repurposed fabrics from only one vintage Japanese happi coat. When I disassembled the original festival coat, wear marks and fading became quite prominent. Piecing these together created a whole new pattern of subtle color and pattern that offsets the bold black and white stenciled design of the original coat. I encountered an interesting challenge when I started running out of fabric for the collar, and had to develop a different construction technique. The lining is made from deadstock Belgian linen that I over dyed, and it has two interior pockets. I also made ties on the front and slits on the side seams. The length is 31," the width is 27," and the arms are 25.5." The fit is between a men's large and extra large. Show more
