All the edges of this extra-long scarf are all selvedge edges from the vintage, loomed kimono silk. And because the selvedge is so wide, it creates an interesting bordered effect. I cut all of the patchwork pieces in this scarf on the bias, and I like the way the lightweight silk fringes at the seams. Because of its age, this fabric it was challenging to work with, and I added many additional patches as the piece progressed. A hand-sewn, mended patch from the original kimono I deconstructed remains on one of the silk pieces. Any discoloration or damage is due to the vintage nature of the fabric.
