Ivan Freehand Stitching Groover. Compact Leather Grooving Tool for Straight and Curved Stitch Lines. The Ivan Freehand Stitching Groover is a simple and effective tool for leathercrafters who want the freedom to cut stitch grooves exactly where they need them. Designed without an extra guide, this tool is ideal for creating both straight and curved grooves on a wide range of leather projects. Whether you are laying out custom stitch paths, following decorative curves, or cutting recessed channels in areas where a fixed guide would get in the way, this groover offers the control and flexibility needed for precise freehand work. Unlike edge-guided groovers that are designed to follow a set distance from the edge, the Ivan Freehand Stitching Groover is made for makers who want to work more freely across the surface of the leather. This makes it especially useful for projects with shaped panels, rounded corners, curved stitch layouts, detailed case work, custom bag designs, and any leather item where stitch lines do not follow a simple straight border. It is an excellent option for both practical construction lines and decorative grooved accents. Cutting a groove for stitching helps your thread sit slightly below the leather surface, which can reduce wear from friction and abrasion over time. This recessed channel also gives hand stitching a cleaner, more finished appearance. For belts, wallets, cases, straps, bags, and other handmade leather goods, a grooved stitch line can add both protection and a more professional look to the final piece. The blade cutting channel width of 1–1.25mm makes this tool well suited for fine, neat groove lines that work nicely with many common hand stitching setups. It provides a clean enough channel for stitching without removing unnecessary material, making it a practical choice for everyday leathercraft work as well as more detailed projects. Its compact format makes it easy to handle and control, especially in smaller or tighter working areas. With a 1/4" handle width and 4-3/8" total length, the tool feels manageable in the hand and is well suited to careful freehand movement. This smaller size can be especially helpful for leatherworkers who prefer a more pencil-like grip when guiding tools through curves and detailed stitching paths. Whether you are a beginner learning how to add recessed stitch lines or an experienced maker who wants a compact freehand groover for more flexible layout work, the Ivan Freehand Stitching Groover is a practical and affordable addition to the bench.
