These earrings are called cow earrings because in African culture, well-fed & abundant cows represent a wealthy family, this being important as should the men in the family wish to take a bride, they would have to pay lobola which is a bride gift given to the bride’s family to honor & thank them for raising such a beautiful woman who will become a wife to their son.
