赤味を帯びた漆で仕上げられた欅の前板に菊を思わせる花菱を囲むように唐草があしらわれた錠前金具。仙台箪笥特有の横長に広がった透かしの錠前金具は一枚の鉄板を叩き出し、鏨で模様を彫り上げていながら平面に取り付けられる様に仕上げられています。金具だけでも技術力の高さが見て取れる一棹です。幅は109ｃｍと大きすぎないサイズながらも堂々とした印象の仙台衣裳箪笥です。 また、こちらの箪笥には”隠し”と呼ばれる隠されたスペースがあります。右下の扉の内側には3つの小さな引き出しがあり、下2つの引き出しは引き出したときに奥行きが異なります。これは、その奥に隠しがあることを示しています。そこに収納されているものを取り出す為には仕切り板を引き出します。The front panel is made of zelkova finished with reddish lacquer, and the lock fittings are decorated with arabesques surrounding a flower-shaped diamond reminiscent of a chrysanthemum.The lock fittings, which are unique to Sendai chests, are made by hammering out a sheet of iron and carving out a pattern with a chisel, but are finished so that they can be mounted on a flat surface.The metal fittings alone show the high level of craftsmanship of this piece.The width of this Sendai Costume Chest is 109cm, which is not too big, but it gives a magnificent impression. This chest of drawers also features a hidden compartment known as a ‘隠し/KAKUSHI’. There are three small drawers at the bottom right of the door, and the two lower drawers have different depths when pulled out. This indicates the presence of a secret compartment behind them. When you pull out the divider, you can retrieve the items stored there.
