In September 1967, John Lennon received a letter from a teacher working at his alma mater in Liverpool, Quarry Bank High School, explaining how the children in his class had been t asked to analyse and comprehend lyrics of Beatles’ songs. Although impressed, the fact also inspired Lennon to compose a song in which the lyrics would be intentionally impossible to decipher: I am the Walrus. At the conclusion of each chorus, Lennon sings with vigour “I am the egg man They are the egg men I am the walrus Goo goo g’joob” The song appeared first in the television film, Magical Mystery Tour and as the B-Side to Hello Goodbye, on a Double EP which would hold both first and second place on British Singles Charts in December 1967.
