It was created in honor of 6-year-old Jacob Hall from Tow nville, South Carolina, who was tragically wounded in a school shooting in 2016. Though Jacob survived the scene and emergency response, he passed away days later due to blood loss. His story sparked a movement: a commitment to ensure every school and public building is prepared to stop traumatic bleeding and protect lives. First launched by the Townville area fire district in 2017, the JACOB Kit program quickly gained momentum. Schools, government buildings, and community organizations across the county, state, and nation have embraced the initiative — recognizing how critical immediate bleeding control can be before first responders arrive. Today, the goal remains the same: empower staff, teachers, and bystanders with the tools needed to act fast, stay calm, and save a life.
