by artist Danil Becker Oil and acrylic on canvas Size: 65 x 80 cm Explanation of the work: Jael and Teddy depicts the biblical story of Jael killing the military commander Sisera. The painting was also inspired by works by Artemisia Gentileschi , whose interpretations of similar themes had a strong influence on me. In my version, the victim is represented by a teddy bear, which is a recurring element in my paintings that deal with such subjects. At the same time, I wanted to avoid turning the scene into something childish or humorous. Instead, my goal was to convey the seriousness of Jael's intentions through her pose, the color palette, and her glassy, determined gaze. That gaze reflects her genuine willingness to kill in order to save her people from tyranny, despite the fact that her victim is only a teddy bear. The contrast between the innocence of the toy and the gravity of the act creates the tension that interested me most in this painting.
