James Carpenter is an artist and sculptor known for his innovative work with glass and material technologies. His design practice blends architecture, technical consulting, and the creation of structures such as curtain walls, bridges, and sculptures. In his first monograph, James Carpenter: Environmental Refractions, author Sandro Marpillero examines the potential of glass’s transparency, reflectivity, and strength in design. The book showcases over 300 images of Carpenter’s work, highlighting his contributions across architecture, engineering, and fine arts. Since founding James Carpenter Design Associates in 1978, Carpenter has collaborated with leading architects and engineers, including Norman Foster and Richard Meier.
