The Hemp - From Narodni tance na Morave, JW VIII/10$$$$$$This folkdance Konope [The Hemp] is the eleventh folkdance in Leos Janacek's album Narodni tance na Morave, JW VIII/10 [Folkdances in Moravia]. Janacek composed these arrangements of Moravian folkdances in 1888 and 1889. They were first published in three volumes, in 1891 and 1893. This particular dance Konope comes from the region of Hana. The term Konope or Coufava is a dialect variant of couvat, to retreat. Hence the Konope is a backstepping dance. Its first line reads: Rosto, rosto, rosto konope za cesto [Hemp grows on the path].
