32 Progressive Exercisesfrom Methode Theorique at Pratique pour le Bassonby Eugene Jancourt (1815-1901) - French bassoonist and pedagogue Edited by Darryl Durran In 1845, Jancourt's 234-page Grand methode theorique et pratique en 3 parites was commissioned by the Paris Conservatoire to replace an earlier tutor by Etienne Ozi. Published in 1847, this sizable book includes a wealth of material of all kinds, including etudes, duets, and text. The 32 Progressive Studies are found in Part Two, along with melodies drawn from the operatic repertoire with accompaniment of a 2nd bassoon or cello, and three petite sonatas (also with accompaniment). The well-known 26 Melodic Studies are from Part Three. While the 26 Melodic Studies are widely available, the 32 Progressive Studies have been unavailable separate from the complete Methode except for appearing in a 1946 Belwin edition of extracts from the "Jancourt Method" edited by Thomas C. Collins. The 32 Progressive Studies are valuable material to use in conjunction with the studies of Weissenborn and Milde.
