The artist was inspired to create a series of twelve landscapes, each dedicated to a specific month of the year, using subjects and colours that evoke personal associations with each month. Each piece was completed en plein air, in one sitting, to capture the true essence of the scene. For January, the artist chose Drinkfield Marsh Nature Reserve, located near their home. This is a place often visited with the artist’s wife and foster children. The day was cold, and after hours of painting outdoors, the artist’s hands were nearly stiff from the chill. The still waters of the marsh reflect the muted tones of the surrounding landscape, while the soft, overcast sky sets the scene’s mood, adding to the sense of cold and stillness that defines a January day. This work holds special significance as it marked the beginning of the year-long journey to complete the twelve landscapes. Despite the intense cold, it was an immensely fulfilling and beautiful experience. Giclée prints, a fusion of artistry and technology, offer a means to experience and share art in its finest form.
