Known as the “Land of the Rising Sun.” Japan was the trip I was most reluctant about. I honestly didn’t think I would like it. Unusual food, crowds, a language and people I couldn’ t figure out – this was my terrible stereotype before arriving. Fast-forward four months in the country, and it remains one of the greatest trips of my life. The culture is as rich and rooted as it gets. The food is now my favorite in the world. The people are proud, polite, and incredibly intriguing. From the snowy mountains of Hokkaido to the tropical landscapes of Ishigaki, there is so much more to this country than sushi and Tokyo (although, both of those are great too).
