This A5 sized jigsaw has 80 pieces and is printed onto card. A blank inside greetings card featuring the same image (plus a fine quality envelope) is included as a reference to help solve the puzzle. Once solved, you can post the card to a friend. This image, based on my own original painting of Dunstanburgh Castle one early morning. It is one of the most iconic sights on the Northumberland coast and a subject that has inspired artists for centuries. Perched dramatically on its rugged headland, the ruined towers rise above the sea like a broken crown, powerful, weathered and unforgettable. Even J. M. W. Turner was captivated by it, returning to paint the castle on several occasions after first visiting Northumberland in 1797. It's also one of my own favourite places along the coast, somewhere I return to throughout the year with sketchbook and/ or camera in hand. I have painted it in many different moods, from frost touched winter mornings where the beach glows pale blue, to dazzling summer days beneath huge open skies. Yet I especially love those moments when a thin skim of water lies across the sand, reflecting the shifting clouds and light above. It turns the shoreline into a mirror for the sky and gives the whole landscape a sense of space, atmosphere and quiet drama. This painting captures that timeless beauty and the enduring magic of the Northumberland coast.
