After his first visit to the Alps in 1802, he began to combine narrative with the effects of sublime and violent nature, as seen in his Snow Storm: Hannibal and His Army Crossing the Alps (1812). Later landscapes such as The Fighting Temeraire (1838) were remarkable for their dazzling effects of light and colour.
