Johnny Depp, Malibu CA, 1987. At this point, no one knew who Johnny Depp was yet. They had shot 21 Jump Street, but it hadn’t aired. I was given an 8x10 glossy by his management and told to go pick him up at the airport. We drove straight across Mulholland to Malibu and started shooting. Johnny had this violin with him. I don’t know why - he didn’t really play it. He was carrying it around like some sort of prop, and he literally walked off the plane with it. I didn’t understand it, but I didn’t question it. I was like, “Okay, fine. Can we take a few without it as well?” It’s part of the give and take of a photo shoot. You give them one for them, so you get one for you. And keep shooting. I learned that that day.
