Starting from the pole he led the race seven time s for a total of 118 laps and crossed the finish line 30 seconds ahead of runner up Tom Sneva to claim his third Indy 500 victory. Johnny won a total of 27 Indy Car victories and 23 pole positions and ranks 5th on the all time winner list.
