The Johnson Controls P66AAB-1 is a high-performance electronic fan speed control specifically engineered for HVACR professionals managing condenser head pressure. Designed as a superior alternative to traditional fan cycling, this pressure actuated motor speed controller maintains stable head pressure by modulating fan speed in response to direct refrigerant pressure. This model operates within a 190 to 250 psig range, making it ideal for high-pressure R-410A refrigeration and air conditioning systems. The 10% start voltage ensures a reliable initial torque for single-phase permanent split-capacitor (PSC) motors, while the integrated 60-inch capillary provides flexible sensing placement. For veteran technicians, the P66AAB-1 offers a robust solution featuring built-in RFI suppression and surge protection to prevent electronic interference in sensitive commercial environments. The condenser fan speed control handles line voltages from 208 to 480 VAC, allowing for versatile deployment across various professional job sites. By continuously adjusting air delivery, it eliminates the abrupt pressure swings and mechanical stress associated with standard on/off cycles, extending the operational life of the condenser motor and improving overall system efficiency in low ambient conditions. Key Benefits for HVACR Contractors: Precision Head Pressure Control: Directly senses refrigerant pressure to provide smooth, modulating speed adjustments rather than harsh cycling. Soft Start Capability: Reduces motor noise and mechanical wear by providing a controlled ramp-up at minimal supply voltage. Broad Voltage Compatibility: Rated for 208, 240, 277, and 480 VAC applications, suitable for most single-phase 60 Hz condenser fans. Field-Proven Reliability: Includes internal surge protection and a grounded terminal screw to ensure stable operation in demanding environments. NEMA 1 Enclosure: Designed for easy mounting in protected areas or within control panels. Common Questions & Technical Support: What motor types are compatible with the P66AAB-1? This controller is strictly for use with single-phase Permanent Split-Capacitor (PSC) motors that are ball-bearing rated and approved by the manufacturer for speed control. Do not use with sleeve-bearing motors. Can I adjust the throttling range? No, the throttling range is fixed at 60 psi for this model to ensure consistent modulating performance within the set operating window. How does the start voltage affect performance? The 10% start voltage provides enough initial power to break the motor’s static friction, ensuring the fan rotates immediately upon reaching the lower pressure threshold.
