The Jojo vase is a rounded bud vase with the kind of name that was everywhere in the seventies and then vanished, along with shag carpet and the conviction that every family needed a van. Nobody names anything Jojo anymore — not children, not pets — and yet here it sits, a gourd shaped vase in glazed ceramic, wearing its dated name with the stubbornness of someone who refuses to learn it went out of fashion. I find that oddly steadying. It comes as a sphere or a low oval, each about three and a quarter inches across, in gold, silver, or white, and either footprint disappears politely onto a windowsill until you give it a single stem. At that moment it stops being polite. The interior glaze holds water without complaint and rinses out in seconds. Shaped by hand at Chive Ceramics Studio and polished to a shine that outlasts the trend cycle.
