Highly recommended. This record will leave a puddle of sweat on your turntable. I recall thinking - way on back in the nineties - that The Blues Explosion were the greatest young r ock ‘n’ roll band the world over. Returning to an album you once revered after decades apart can gift great disappointment but tossing a copy of Extra Width on the ol’ hi-fi has only reawakened my first impression. This record is a friggin’ mojo workout. Spencer had drifted deep inside the warmth of southern soul at this point. His recipe of James Brown, Elvis, and his own twisted musical conducting’s made for a unique and bizarre rock ‘n’ roll experience. I don’t believe I have adequate verbal descriptors to give Extra Width justice. It has to be heard. Plus my descriptors might be off.
