Jonathan Shue helps students unlock their singing and instrument‑playing potential, whether they’re total beginners or seasoned performers. He believes everyone can make music, and that it’s never too late to start. His teaching centers on small, manageable steps, clear goals, and a supportive path toward progress. Drawing from the Alexander Technique and Kristin Linklater’s voice work, Jonathan uses a “whole self” approach that helps students connect breath, voice, and expression — whether singing, writing songs, playing guitar or ukulele, or simply enjoying music. Students who want to build confidence in their playing, singing, and performing will find Jonathan a natural fit. He helps learners develop repertoire, write original songs, and prepare for open mics, jams, and performances. His musical focus includes Americana and folk and 1970s singer‑songwriters. Jonathan works especially well with students who want ongoing guidance and a consistent tutorial relationship — learners who benefit from regular check‑ins, structured progression, and a teacher who stays with them over time as their skills grow. Jonathan is an ideal fit for: · Adult beginners and intermediate players who want patient, step‑by‑step guidance · Returning learners starting music for the first time or after a long break · Singer‑instrumentalists wanting to sing and play at the same time · Songwriters developing original music · Performers seeking confidence onstage or in front of others · Students who prefer ongoing support, structured tutorials, and a long‑term learning plan Jonathan has performed in award‑winning regional theatre; toured internationally; composed and arranged music for theatre companies and music projects in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle; and worked as a producer, songwriter, and teaching artist for more than twenty‑five years. He also collaborates with arts organizations to develop curriculum and programming, including work with a global nonprofit delivering social and emotional learning through music in Los Angeles, India, Tanzania, and Colombia.
