In 2024, Jonny Kim may become the first Asian American to set foot on the moon as a member of NASA’s Artemis Team, which aims to return humans to the lunar surface. Jonny Kim is an extraordinary individual with multiple distinguished roles. He is not only an astronaut but also a physician with an M.D. from Harvard Medical School and a former Navy SEAL. During his military career, Kim completed over 100 combat missions and was awarded both the Silver Star and Bronze Star for his valor and service. As a father of three, Kim stresses the importance of following one’s passion. “My only expectation, which I tell my kids very, very often, is that they follow their heart… I love it when they tell me, ‘Abba, I want to be an artist,’” he says, using the affectionate Korean word for “dad.”
