Description Jorge e Mãe and Jorge e Pai, are a suite of four unique lithographic monoprints by Brazilian artist Paulo Nimer Pjota. Derived from paintings of the same name, each com position is realized here in two distinct impressions, preserving the immediacy and material density of the artist’s hand. Figures, flora, stars, and symbolic forms converge within a pictorial scene. In one, a mother holds a radiant star with a child in her womb; in another, a father cradles a son whose presence feels both earthly and mythic. Jorge, Pjota’s son, emerges as both subject and symbol, at the center of these intimate, allegorical compositions. Working in a restrained palette of teal, yellow, and red, Pjota allows color to punctuate the dense lithographic line — stars flare, flowers glow, eyes illuminate. The resulting images carry what the artist describes as a “dreamlike intoxication,” where fable, memory, and spiritual thought intermingle. Each lithographic monoprint is unique, bearing subtle tonal shifts inherent to the process. About the Artist Paulo Nimer Pjota (b. 1988, São José do Rio Preto) lives and works in São Paulo, Brazil. Recent solo exhibitions include Kunstituut Melly, Rotterdam, Netherlands; Mendes Wood DM, Paris, New York, São Paulo, Brussels; François Ghebaly, Los Angeles; Maureen Paley, London; The Power Station, Dallas and Ivani e Jorge Yunes Collection, São Paulo. His work has been included in institutional group exhibitions such as 38th Panorama of Brazilian Art, Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo; X Museum, Beijing, China; Astrup Fearnley, Oslo; Kunsthal Rotterdam, Rotterdam; Fondation Carmignac, Porquerolles, France; KRC Collection, Voorschoten, Netherlands; Biennial of Contemporary Art Belgrade, Serbia, among others.
