Walk the Streets of Viking Jorvik — Handcrafted Early Medieval Shoes When the Great Heathen Army captured York in 866 AD, it became Jorvik — one of the most powerful Viking settlements in England. Dozens of leather shoes survived in the waterlogged archaeological layers of Coppergate, York, giving us one of the most complete pictures of everyday Viking footwear ever recovered. Noirtide's Jorvik Shoes are a faithful bespoke reproduction of these 9th–10th century finds — the same ankle-height silhouette, the same characteristic side-flap closure, the same toggle fastening worn by Norse warriors, Anglo-Saxon craftsmen, and Danelaw settlers over a thousand years ago. Authentic Construction, Premium Genuine Leather Each pair is individually handcrafted using traditional turnshoe construction — the dominant shoemaking method of the early medieval period, in which the shoe is stitched inside-out then turned right-side-out to protect the seam and extend its life. The upper is cut from premium full-grain genuine leather, shaped to your foot measurements. The closure uses rolled leather toggle buttons — historically documented in Jorvik finds and practically excellent for quick adjustment. Choose a traditional leather sole for maximum archaeological accuracy, or a rubber sole for outdoor events and natural terrain where modern grip is essential. Fully Bespoke — Any Size, Any Fitting Every pair is made entirely to your order. No standard sizes, no compromises — wide, narrow, and non-standard fittings are all welcome. Once your order is placed, we will contact you directly to confirm your measurements before production begins. Perfect for Viking Age Reenactors, LARP & Living History These shoes are built for Viking Age reenactors, Anglo-Saxon living history, LARP participants, Norse-themed events, Danelaw portrayals, 9th–11th century historical impressions, SCA events, and anyone seeking archaeologically grounded early medieval footwear.
