View A is a crew-necked, babydoll top with a gathered sweetheart yoke—optional ruffles at the sleeve. View B is a crew-necked, tiered babydoll dress with a gathered sweetheart yoke and optional ruffled sleeves. It can be made with multiple tiers for a variety of looks. Some great options are cotton lawn, quilting cotton, handkerchief linen, or silks. I love adding a see-through element like silk organza or lace. The unique style lines can be accentuated by making a scrappy top with multiple fabrics or color blocking. While it was designed for lightweight fabrics, it also works in heavier, stiffer fabrics. The more structured your fabric is, the more dramatic the silhouette will be. I have made several versions of this top/dress with vintage linens. I piece together multiple handkerchiefs for the tiers of the dress.
