by artist Danil Becker Oil, acrylic and oil pastel on canvas Size: 70 x 50 cmThe reference for this painting was Caravaggio's Judith and Holofernes. It's a biblical scene in which Judith kills the tyrant Holofernes in his chambers. We discussed this painting during a colloquium, and the idea for my version immediately came to mind. My main goal was to convey a sense of brutality and intensity, even though in reality no living being is actually suffering in my scene. There isn't really any symbolic meaning behind the choice of the shark - I simply chose it because I liked its face, and it added a lot to the atmosphere I was aiming for.
