A coverstitch machine creates one, two or three parallel rows of stitching on the garment face while a looper thread covers and secures the fabric underneath. It is commonly used for T-shirt hems, cuffs, necklines, activewear and decorative stitching. Is the JUKI MCS-1500 an overlocker? No. It does not trim or overlock the raw edge. It is a dedicated coverstitch and chainstitch machine designed mainly for professional hemming, topstitching and specialist garment finishing. Does the MCS-1500 cut the fabric? No. It has no fabric-cutting knife. The fabric is folded or positioned beneath the foot and stitched without being trimmed. It does include an exterior thread cutter for trimming the thread chain. Can the MCS-1500 sew a triple coverstitch? Yes. Using all three needles and the lower looper creates three parallel rows of stitching on top with a wide flexible looper formation underneath.
