From the author's obituary, which appeared in The New York Times, August 22, 1989: 'Linda Lyon Van Voorhis... known as June in her family, published her first book of poems at 22 under the title 'June's Verses.' She followed this with 'More June's Verses' in 1935 and, in 1973, 'June in September.' Her verses, ranging from whimsical family topics to the topically serious, also appeared in popular anthologies. Mrs. Van Voorhis was born in Rochester and for much of her life worked for environmental, cultural and social causes. She was the widow of John Van Voorhis, an associate judge of the New York State Court of Appeals from 1953 until his retirement in 1967.'
