The BMW E60, E61, E63, and E64 5 and 6 Series, non-M, use a factory center support bearing carrier that holds the driveshaft with a thin layer of rubber. That rubber keeps noise out of the cabin, but per JXB Performance it can start to crack in as little as 5 to 10 years even on a well kept car, letting the bearing sag out of alignment and introducing slack into the driveline under hard acceleration or quick shifts. This JXB Performance driveshaft carrier replaces the factory piece with a solid two-piece clamp that keeps the driveshaft centered at all times. It clamps directly around the vehicle's existing, unserviceable center support bearing, so the driveshaft never has to come out of the car, be disassembled, or be rebalanced. JXB's install video for this part was filmed on an E61 Touring. Important Compatibility Information This carrier is built for non-M E60, E61, E63, and E64 models. The E60 M5 and E63/E64 M6 use a different carrier — see the M5/M6 driveshaft carrier instead. Street vs Track Bushings Every carrier ships with a choice of bushing durometer. Street bushings are the softer option and JXB's recommendation for any car that is not purpose-built for track or overland use, since they do the best job keeping drivetrain noise and vibration out of the cabin. Track bushings run roughly twice the durometer of Street for the most direct feel under load. Both are many times stiffer than the factory rubber and both typically run silent and vibration-free; a combined option supplies a full set of each so you can compare and settle on a favorite. What's Included JXB Performance two-piece driveshaft carrier (x1) Street bushings, Track bushings, or a full set of each, depending on the option selected All carrier mounting hardware Reused from your vehicle: the factory center support bearing. The new carrier clamps around it rather than replacing it. Required but not included: a cutting tool to remove the factory carrier. Installation Notes The old carrier is cut away from the factory bearing and the rubber support material is pared back with a razor blade, leaving the base layer of molded-on rubber intact on the bearing. The new two-piece carrier then clamps directly around it. Nearby braces, splash shields, exhaust sections, and heat shielding around the center support bearing typically need to move for access first. Frequently Asked Questions Which chassis does this cover? This carrier fits the non-M E60 5 Series Sedan, E61 Touring, E63 6 Series Coupe, and E64 Convertible. Does this fit an M5 or M6?No. M models use a different driveshaft carrier, linked above. Do I need to remove the driveshaft to install this? No. The carrier clamps around the existing center support bearing in place, so the driveshaft stays in the car. Which bushing option should I pick?Street suits nearly every daily driven car and is JXB's general recommendation. Track runs roughly twice the durometer for the most direct feel.
