The dormakaba Simplex EE1011/EE1011 is a heavy-duty, double-sided mechanical pushbutton lock that requires the programmed combination for both entry and egress. Pushbutton keypads and knobs are installed on both sides of the door, preventing unauthorized passage in either direction. It requires no batteries, wiring, keys, cards or software and includes a 3-hour UL/ULC fire-rated cylindrical latch. Full Product Description The dormakaba Simplex EE1011/EE1011 Double-Sided Mechanical Pushbutton Lock provides combination-controlled access from both sides of a door. Unlike conventional keyless locks that provide free interior egress, the EE1011/EE1011 requires an authorized user to enter the combination before operating either knob. This double-sided configuration is designed for specially controlled openings where movement must be restricted in both directions. Typical applications may include secured institutional areas, controlled industrial spaces, laboratories, data centers, equipment rooms and other locations where unrestricted egress is neither required nor permitted. Both sides of the door feature a mechanical pushbutton keypad and cast operating knob. A user enters the programmed combination and turns the knob to retract the cylindrical latch. The lock uses one shared access combination to control entry and egress. Because the EE1011/EE1011 is completely mechanical, it requires no batteries, electricity, wiring, access cards, software, computer or network connection. It remains operational during power and network outages and eliminates recurring battery-replacement expenses. The combination can use one to five buttons pressed individually or simultaneously, providing thousands of possible combinations. Authorized personnel can change the code through the keypad without removing the lock from the door. Heavy-duty construction includes cast housings on both sides of the opening, cast knobs and vandal-resistant solid-metal pushbuttons. The standard configuration includes a 1/2" throw cylindrical latch with a 2-3/4" backset. A 3/4" throw latch is available as an option. The lock is factory configured for left-hand doors but can be reversed in the field. It installs on properly prepared wood or metal doors using an ANSI/ASA 161 cylindrical-lock preparation with additional through holes. The cylindrical latch carries a 3-hour UL/ULC fire rating for “A”-labeled doors. However, because the EE1011/EE1011 restricts egress from both sides, its use is subject to strict building, fire and life-safety requirements. It should only be installed where double-sided combination control is expressly permitted by the authority having jurisdiction. How Double-Sided Operation Works The combination is required regardless of which direction the user is traveling. Critical Egress Warning The Simplex EE1011/EE1011 does not provide free egress. A person inside the secured area must know and correctly enter the combination to exit. Before specifying or installing this lock, confirm approval with: The local building-code official The fire marshal The authority having jurisdiction The project architect or hardware consultant The facility’s life-safety representative This model should generally not be used on: Required emergency exits Panic-hardware openings Doors serving assembly occupancies Doors requiring single-motion egress Accessible egress routes requiring compliant operable hardware Any opening where free egress is required by code A fire-rated latch does not automatically mean that combination-controlled egress is permitted.
