Painted when Kandinsky left Russian to join the Bauhaus teaching team, Composition 8 illustrates the theory of correspondences between geometric shapes and colors. None are isolate d. They work in interaction, like the purple and black circle - a silent color according to the painter - "warmed" by the red halo that surrounds it. The artist plays on the polarities between coldness and warmth, stillness and movement.
