Kariroku (訶梨勒) - Incense Pouch This is a traditional Japanese scented hanging ornament known as Kariroku (訶梨勒). The tassel is hand-finished by carefully unraveling the kumihimo (組紐) cord. Kariroku was originally inspired by the fruit of a medicinal plant from India. Because the fruit was traditionally valued for its medicinal properties, it came to be used as a protective ornament believed to ward off harmful influences. In Japan, Kariroku developed into a decorative hanging incense pouch, traditionally displayed on pillars or walls and also used for tea gatherings and celebratory occasions. Filled with your choice of natural fragrance, it can be hung on a wall or displayed in a room to add a subtle scent and a touch of Japanese tradition. Please note that this item does not include incense or potpourri.
