The Kawanishi H8K was a large, four-engine maritime patrol flying boat used by the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service (IJNAS) during World War II. Given the Allied reporting name "Emily" and officially designated by Japan as the Type 2 Flying Boat (Nishiki Hikōtei), it is widely regarded by aviation historians as the most outstanding water-based combat aircraft of the war. It was heavily praised for its extreme range, high structural durability, and bristling defensive firepower. A total of 167 Kawanishi H8K "Emily" flying boats were built between 1941 and 1945. Produced by the Kawanishi Kokuki company in Japan, this impressive aircraft is widely regarded as one of the best and most rugged maritime patrol flying boats of World War II.
