Gokujo Zukoh is a traditional purifying incense powder applied to the hands and body before sutra chanting, copying scriptures, temple visits, or memorial prayers. It has long been used by Buddhist practitioners as a sacred fragrance for spiritual and physical purification. Its formula is based on ancient Indian Buddhist texts and is made from the classic five aromatic ingredients: agarwood, sandalwood, borneol, clove, and turmeric. Only carefully selected natural aromatic materials are used. This blend follows the same traditional formulation still used at Mount Koya Okunoin, representing an especially authentic and formal style of zuko. To use, simply place a small amount on your palm and gently rub it into your hands. Unlike perfume-style body fragrances, zuko is intended specifically for purification rather than casual scent enjoyment. Produced in Japan at the maker’s own factory and offered here in a convenient pouch format.
