Johin Zukoh is a traditional purifying incense powder applied to the hands and body before sutra chanting, copying scriptures, temple visits, and memorial prayers. It has long been used in Buddhist practice as a sacred aromatic preparation for spiritual and physical purification. Its blend is based on classical formulas recorded in ancient Indian Buddhist texts and centers on five key aromatic ingredients: agarwood, sandalwood, borneol, clove, and turmeric. Only carefully selected natural aromatic materials are used. To use, simply place a small amount in your palm and gently rub it into your hands. Unlike perfume-style body fragrances, zuko is intended specifically for purification rather than casual scent enjoyment. This Jōhin (Standard) Zuko is the maker’s original blend, while the Premium Zuko version follows the same formula used at Mount Koya Okunoin. Available in pouch, cup, and box formats, and produced in Japan at the maker’s own factory.
