Bumblebees are the most well-known bees out of approximately 800 species in Canada. They are often considered the most important group of pollinators. Without pollinators, there wo uldn't be much for us to eat! Declines in bumblebee populations have been reported all over the world. Like many other species, the main threats to the survival of bumblebees are habitat loss and pesticide use. Large expanses of natural habitat are fragmented or transformed for agriculture and city building. Native plant species can support more than 30 times the number of insects than non-native species.
