The ISSHŌ KENMEI Tenugui is an original KendoStar design, created around a play on the well-known Japanese phrase 一生懸命, Isshō Kenmei, which means to try one’s very hardest. In this design, the character 懸 has been replaced with 剣, the character for sword. This gives the phrase the same reading, Isshō Kenmei, but with a Kendo-inspired meaning: dedicating one’s life to the sword. Kendo is Life. This Tenugui expresses the spirit behind #KendoIsLife: not simply doing Kendo as a hobby, but approaching it with effort, commitment, and a lifelong connection to the sword.
