Bright raspberry and red grape sweetness with crisp apple acidity and wine-like finish. Gakundu Factory is located in Kairuri, Embu County, on the slopes of Mount Kenya, one of the world’s most celebrated coffee-growing regions. Coffee delivered here comes from local smallholder farmers cultivating classic Kenyan varieties including SL28, SL34, Batian and Ruiru 11. Grown in rich red soils at 1650 MASL, these coffees benefit from cool temperatures, reliable rainfall and a long growing season. The result is the vibrant acidity, structure and fruit complexity that have made Kenyan coffee so highly regarded. In Kenya, washing stations are known as factories, serving as central collection and processing points for surrounding farming communities. Gakundu Factory operates through a cooperative model that supports member farmers with education, sustainability initiatives and improved market access. Freshly harvested cherries are carefully sorted and fully washed, a process that helps showcase the clarity and intensity Kenyan coffees are known for. This is our first year featuring coffee from Gakundu and it's a beautiful example of why we eagerly anticipate each Kenyan harvest. For this coffee we paid 64% above the Fair Trade price.
