These small kete have been created using harakeke (flax) harvested from Omaka in Blenheim. The harakeke has been boiled to preserve it and the whakairo pattern used is whakanihonih o. Inside the kete there is a smaller one, hence the name Te Kete i Roto i te Kete - it represents the layers of knowledge, or the passing down of wisdom.
