We're pleased to present this formula for olivewood care so you can hydrate, restore, and protect the wood in your kitchen. We've obtained beeswax from the friendly beekeepers at O livarez Chico Honey and emulsified it with food grade mineral oil over gentle heat to produce this lightly aromatic and somewhat fluid semi-solid "butter" to apply directly to your spoons, boards, and bowls to keep them in good condition without an overly waxy finish. The aroma is naturally occurring from the hives, and has a warm sweetness like honey and cedar that does not linger long. Why You Need This Our olivewood ships from the edge of the desert in central Tunisia, an arid climate good for living olive trees, but hard on the boards and tools those trees yield. Woodenware waits in a North African warehouse, then travels for a few weeks in an ocean-going vessel before crossing North American to me in California. Although we condition and buff each piece of olivewood before packing to order, wood in your shipment may arrive to you still looking dry and require a second treatment. Wood, including olivewood, is porous. Even with careful hand washing all wooden kitchen tools eventually become dry, lose the vividness of their markings, and if not treated, can even split or crack over time. How to Use Wood Conditioning Butter Wipe the olivewood with a damp cloth and, once clean and dry, massage some conditioner onto it. Allow the formula time to soak overnight, and then wipe away the excess. Here's a money-saving hint: if you have very dry woodenware or a lot of woodenware to treat I recommend starting the process with food grade mineral oil after cleaning. Once that oil has soaked in, then finish with our wood butter. The notion here is that a dry board can absorb quite a lot. The formula we've prepared for you offers extra protection via the beeswax on top of an initial treatment using mineral oil alone.
