Your instructor will assess your level of ability and tailor your lesson so you get the most out of it. Equipment is supplied for all lessons. This includes your kite, board, bar, harness, safety vest and helmet (does not include wetsuit/sunglasses).All of our lessons are one-on-one unless specified. We teach one-on-one to ensure you get the most out of your lessons. Our instructors are highly qualified. We will never teach with just assistant instructors, so rest assured you'll be in safe hands. Our Bb Talkin' activated radio helmets are available for all our lessons. This enables direct communication between the Instructor and the student throughout the duration of each lesson. Trainer Kites: We highly recommend everybody spend some time flying a trainer kite before taking their first lesson (view our instructional video here). This ensures you get the most out of your private lesson to progress quicker in a more cost-effective manner. You can purchase a trainer kite or hire a trainer kite for $50 per week. Lesson availability calendar (View only) After purchase, you will be emailed instructions on how to create a booking. Minimum of 24 hours prior notice is required for all bookings Bookings are made with the lesson booking calendar. (Must have purchased lesson credit/s and sign in with Kitepower customer account). When you purchase a lesson through our online checkout, two things automatically happen in our booking system: a user account linked to your email address is created and the lesson credit/s applied to your account. Our school closes from May 1st through to October (exact date dependant on when the NE sea breezes commence). This is because winds drop away in Autumn and turn offshore making conditions unsuitable for lessons. What To Bring: Swimwear (a wetsuit is recommended when it's cold), towel, sunscreen, water bottle, and watersport sunglasses (like these). Location: All our lessons are held at Monterey Beach. To view the same weather forecast we use to determine if our lessons go ahead, visit Seabreeze. Day Before & On-The-Day Communication Communications will be via TXT message and email. Depending on the forecast, the lesson may be cancelled either the evening before or on the day of the scheduled lesson time. Otherwise assume the lesson will go ahead. If an Australian mobile number is NOT provided you may not receive TXT messages and must rely on email communications. Reasons For Cancellation: The list below outlines the reasons why Kitepower may cancel a lesson: 1. The wind/weather conditions are not suitable, as this will either lead to the kite not being able to fly if the wind is too low or placing the student, instructor, and general public in danger if the winds are too high. Poor weather may also decrease visibility which increases the risk of injury. 2. The beach is too crowded, as this increases the risk of the general public being in the way and getting injured when launching, flying, and landing the kite. This is generally only a problem on weekends when the temperature is over 30°C. Cancellation & No Show Policy No fee applies if you change or cancel your lesson more than 24 hrs before your booked lesson. Cancellations must be done via the booking system. Cancellation of your lesson within 3 to 24 hrs before your booked lesson, will forfeit 0.5 of a booking credit. Cancellation of your lesson less than 3 hrs before your booked lesson, will forfeit 1 booking credit. The total amount of the lesson will be forfeited if you do not show up to your confirmed lesson. Refund Policy: All unused lesson credits expire 12 months from the purchase date. Lesson credits are non-refundable but can be transferred into store credit if you no longer require lessons.
