Coloration: Mature males can develop strong blue and metallic color; females and juveniles are more subdued. Body Shape: Long, laterally compressed predator-hap body suited for active swimming. Origin and Habitat Native Region: Lake Malawi, with recorded localities including the Malawi/Mozambique border shoreline, Chiwi Rocks, Kawanga Rocks, Magunga, and Zimbawe Rock. Natural Habitat: Shallow, sediment-rich shoreline zones; mid-water inhabitant often associated with rocky substrates, but requiring sandy areas for bower construction. Behavior and Temperament Temperament: Mildly aggressive. Social Behavior: Best with larger haps and robust peacocks that are not small enough to be viewed as prey.
