KLEIN TOOLS Chicagoå¨ Grip for PVC-Covered Conductors - 1659-50 What our Experts Think No insulation stripping needed: Specially machined serpentine jaws accept insulated PVC conductors directly, saving prep time and reducing insulation damage risk. Heavy-duty performance: Rated for up to 8,000 lb safe load, ideal for pulling larger PVC-covered conductors with confidence on utility and industrial jobs. Pro-grade durability: Drop-forged, heat-treated steel construction resists wear and delivers consistent gripping strength over repeated use. Smart gripping geometry: Round inside jaw contour and serpentine teeth improve conductor hold while minimizing insulation gouging. Worksite ready: Locking handle and spring-assisted action make setup quick and secure for wire pulling tasks. USA built: Manufactured in the United States, appealing to buyers seeking quality and durability. Q&A Q: What is the KLEIN TOOLS Chicago Grip for PVC-Covered Conductors (1659-50)?A: A heavy-duty Chicago style wire-pulling grip specially designed to securely grab PVC-insulated conductors without stripping insulation. Q: What cable size range does it fit?A: Fits PVC-covered cables from 0.79″ to 1.01″ (20.07–25.65 mm) diameter. Q: How does it protect cable insulation?A: Features serpentine, round-contoured jaws that allow insertion of insulated conductors through the grip, reducing slippage and eliminating the need to strip insulation first. Q: What is the load capacity?A: Rated for a maximum safe load of 8,000 lbs (≈3,629 kg) for robust pulling performance. Q: What materials and build quality does it offer?A: Made from drop-forged, heat-treated steel with a locking handle and spring action for durable, professional-grade use. Q: Is it safe and ready to use?A: Yes — inspect before use, do not exceed weight limits, and use as a temporary cable pulling tool only (not for permanent anchoring). Maintenance Tips Clean Before Every Use: Remove dirt, debris, and any material on the serpentine jaws so the insulated conductor can seat properly and reduce slippage risk. Jaw cleaning prevents insulation damage and ensures rated performance. Inspect & Test: Check jaw alignment, locking handle and spring action for smooth operation; look for wear, deformation or bent parts that could reduce grip or safety. Light Lubrication: Apply light oil to pivot points and moving joints—avoid lubricating gripping surfaces—to maintain smooth opening/closing action. Match Cable Type & Size: Always use this grip with PVC-covered conductors within its specified diameter range; wrong sizing stresses the tool and cable. Observe Safety Limits: Do not exceed the maximum rated load and use only for temporary installation pulling—not as a permanent anchor point.
