Description Flint is the remains of sponges that lived on warm seabeds back when dinosaurs walked the Earth. When the sponges died, their remains eventually became the microscopic quartz crystals that form the core of a flint. ’Knapping’, or splitting, the flints reveals this core for the first time in over 100 million years. Our knapped chalk flints are approximately 75–150mm in size, comes in 1000kg bags, which covers approx 8 sqm. They typically present a blue/grey/black face to the world, bordered by a white chalk skin. Knapped flint also combines well with brick to produce hard-wearing and stylish walling. Our Ex Chalk Knapped Flint is quarried from chalk pits and has a distinctive dark face with a white outer. This matches the local Hampshire chalk and you’ll find it in walling throughout the villages of southern England. Our stock has all been expertly knapped and is ready to use.
