Octagon Roads is a geometric scarf inspired by the elegant lines of Victorian floor tiles, reimagined as a soft, textured knitted fabric. The repeating octagon motifs reflect the structured symmetry of architectural tiling, translated into a rhythmic pattern of knit and purl stitches. This design began during the interior design process of our home and was originally envisioned for the corridor flooring. While the idea shifted, the pattern stayed with me and eventually found its way onto the needles. Designed with confident beginners in mind, this scarf offers a gentle challenge while staying grounded in the fundamentals. The scarf introduces texture and pattern without complexity, making it an ideal first project for adventurous beginners. The pattern is easy to memorise and relaxing to knit, yet it changes every row to keep things interesting. Much of Octagon Roads was knitted on road trips, and along the way I noticed how similar tile patterns appear in different countries, each with its own character and story.
