There are floors in ancient palaces that archaeologists uncover with the same reverence reserved for paintings , geometric, considered, worn to a beauty that only centuries of care ful living can produce. The Knossos carpet carries that quality into the present. Across its square field, a labyrinthine grid of warm sand and pale wheat is divided by aged umber lines into a repeating architectural pattern , structured yet weathered, precise yet warm. Woven in wool of considerable depth, the surface rewards close looking as generously as it rewards distance. Place it at the centre of a room that understands the value of considered things. Show more
