Similar to French Napoleon, popular in his own right, Kremowka became famous when it was learned that St. Pope John Paul II loved it. While attending high school in Wadowice (about 100 miles from my hometown), he would often stop at the local cafe with his friends for this tasty treat. Upon visiting his homeland as Pope, he always requested Kremowka from the Café in Wadowice. This delight is made with crème patisserie (vanilla custard cream) sandwiched between two layers of puff pastry, and then it is lightly dusted with powdered sugar.
