Born in 1948 on Trengganu Street in the heart of Chinatown, Auntie Helen's connection to her culinary heritage runs deep.Auntie Helen's journey with these dishes is steeped in memories. From preparing sweet potato balls with her mother every night from the age of nine to pushing a homemade wooden cart to sell her creations on Temple Street at 530am before school, every bite of these dishes holds a piece of her history. Her biggest customers pools were the Samsui women. Auntie Helen was selling two sweet potato balls for five cents and five for ten cents then.As a child, Auntie Helen learned the art of making Steamed Sponge Cake from her grandmother, a tradition that she now lovingly imparts to others.
